Strong case for Manx advocacy exam

Deemster highlights difficulties facing young advocates

There could be a strong case to be made for a Manx advocacy exam.

That was one issue raised during this morning's sitting of the Constitutional and Legal Affairs and Justice Committee.

The standing committee is investigating legal services on the Island.

First Deemster Andrew Corlett told the Committee it's difficult for young advocates to gain a lot of experience in court as a lot of advocacy work on the Island today is written.

Also giving evidence today was Deemster Alistair Montgomerie, Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes and Chief Registrar Stuart Quayle.
