Steam Packet 'exploring options' for summer charter vessel

Company assessing 'availability and suitability' of potential stand-ins

The Steam Packet Company says it’s ‘continuing to explore options’ for charter vessels to provide support over the summer.

It comes after Manxman was taken out of service until the end of September after suffering mechanical issues.

The vessel was moved out of dry dock over the weekend to accommodate another boat until the replacement parts have been delivered.

The lack of the ‘flagship’ £80 million vessel has caused disruption for passengers who are now having to travel on the Ben-my-Chree or Manannan.

Treasury Minister Chris Thomas told Manx Radio he believes conversations relating to the availability, and suitability, of stand-in vessels are being considered:

In a statement to Manx Radio the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company said: “With regard to chartering, we are continuing to explore options to support our services, including assessing the availability and suitability of potential charter vessels for the remainder of the summer season.”
