Volunteer inspired to help protect dignity in serious incidents
Efforts are underway to raise money to buy privacy screens that can be used at motorsport events to give people who crash more dignity.
A fundraising campaign has been started by a Southern 100 marshal who witnessed a fatal crash at the event last week.
Racer Alan Connor, from Ireland, and marshal Liam Clarke – who was from Wigan - were killed in the incident on the Castletown Bypass.
Their inquests will be opened at Douglas Courthouse today (21 July).
Another rider and spectator were also injured - they're said to be recovering well in UK hospitals.
Debbie Harris told Manx Radio what happened, on 11 July, has affected a lot of people and she’s keen for things to change in the future:
“What we couldn’t do was to stop the people from standing around looking.” – Debbie Harris (Southern 100 marshal)
Each privacy screen costs around £800 to buy – so far more than £2,000 has been raised.
