The Chief Minister will be asked to order a comprehensive review on the implications of the Isle of Man cutting ties with the UK.
The call comes from Rushen MHK Laurence Skelly who's tabled a Tynwald question on the benefits of independence for the Island.
He's asking for a statement at Tuesday's sitting from Allan Bell on the call by Jersey's deputy chief minister for the Channel Island to be 'ready for independence'.
Mr Skelly says in troubled economic times, the Isle of Man should also face-up to the potential of an independent future.
He says the last review was carried out in the nineties and a fresh look at the pros and cons is long overdue:
Ramsey and District Cottage Hospital closure 'inconvenient' but 'significant issues' need to be fixed
Four local authorities looking for by-election candidates
Reinstatement of home births 'remains at top of agenda' for Manx Care
Weekend sailings at risk
