Secondary schools to introduce new science and history exam system

Change follows review of GCSE and IGCSE courses

A new system for science and history exams at Manx high schools will come into force from September.

Government says it follows a review of GCSE and IGCSE courses led by senior school leaders and subject specialists.

As a result science and history specifications will be graded from 9-1 rather than A*-G.

Schools are in the process of developing learning schemes for pupils going into Year 10 in September.

Following the review it's been agreed any exam board changes to core subjects of English language, maths and science would have to be implemented across all schools.

However each secondary setting can choose what works best for them in non-core subjects such as geography, history and art.

Education Minister Julie Edge says 'major changes' are expected in England and Wales over the next five years.

Ms Edge adds schools must be 'agile and ready to react quickly and effectively'.
