Seat on LegCo remains vacant

There was another stalemate in the House of Keys today (Wednesday), as members again tried to elect someone to fill the empty seat on the Legislative Council.

There were six rounds of voting and four candidates, but none of them managed to achieve the 13 votes needed to be elected to Tynwald's upper chamber.

Former fireman John Skinner dropped out after one round of voting and East Douglas MHK Brenda Cannell missed out after four rounds.

Alan Crowe and George Waft were seeking re-election, having recently lost their seats, but were unable to attract sufficient support.

After more than two hours of polls, Speaker of the House of Keys Steve Rodan adjourned the election and invited fresh nominations which must be made in writing by 5pm on Monday, June 7.
