School reaches Haiti target

A Manx community has proved its generosity by helping a primary school raise funds for earthquake survivors in Haiti.

Scoill Vallajeelt set itself the task of collecting £1,000 in a week to buy shelterboxes, containing essential supplies and tools for people who have been made homeless by the disaster.

The school appealed to parents and pupils to help out and two days before the deadline the target was reached.

It's now hoped the money raised will pay for at least one more box.

Headteacher Adrian Shorthouse says the nature of the disaster has brought out the best in people:
