Rifts with UK to feature at Hango Hill ceremony

Manx nationalists will gather at Hango Hill outside Castletown today (Saturday) to salute Illiam Dhone, the man who helped establish the Island's independence.

His execution on January 2, 1663 is commemorated each year with a ceremony at the windswept coastal spot, where he was put to death.

It's organised by the Celtic League and the Manx nationalist party Mec Vannin, and features speeches in English and Manx Gaelic.

Director of information for the Celtic League Bernard Moffatt will give the address in English, on the rifts exposed between the Isle of Man and the United Kingdom in the past year (play audio file):

The commemoration at Hango Hill begins at 2pm, and is followed at 2.45 by the annual Illiam Dhone service at Malew church, where Bishop Robert will give the address.
