The Manx government will wait for an expert's report on renewable energy, before investigating the potential for wave and tidal power.
That was the answer given by Chief Minister Tony Brown, to a Tynwald question from Michael MHK David Cannan, whose constituency has been earmarked for a potential onshore wind farm.
Expressions of interest have been invited from the private sector to build and operate wind turbines on the Island, but Mr Cannan wants that extended to include wave and tidal renewable energy firms.
Mr Brown told him a study on the best options for the Isle of Man was expected later this month:
