Public urged to observe Armistice Day silence

At 11am this morning (Monday) the Manx public is being asked to pause and reflect on those Islanders who died in the service of their country.

After solemn Acts of Remembrance yesterday, another two minutes' silence will be observed around the Island on the 11th November, Armistice Day.

Whether at work, at home, in shops and offices or on the road, residents are invited to respect the silence, in particular that drivers turn off their engines where ceremonies are taking place.

Next year will be 100 years since the outbreak of the first World War.

To mark the anniversary, Manx National Heritage has published a new book about the experience of Manx servicemen on the battlefield and those who helped the war effort from home.
