Public Health issues advice following measles outbreak in England

Those who suspect they have the illness should seek medical advice

Public Health Isle of Man is urging anyone who suspects they have measles to phone ahead before they seek medical advice.

The highly contagious disease is currently spreading across areas of England.

If you suspect you or a family member has measles then you need to be assessed by a doctor.

Appointments should be made through your GP or by using MEDS out of hours service.

Due to the contagious nature of the illness patients will be seen safely away from other people to reduce the risk of infection.

Measles usually starts with cold-like symptoms, a runny or blocked nose, sneezing, a cough, red sore or watery eyes.

This is followed by a non-itchy, red-brown rash around three to five days later.

Some people may also get small white spots in their mouth.
