People trying to keep heads above water, says Manx charity

Salvation Army holds advice courses to help people change their spending habits 

A Manx charity says people are struggling with their bills and they're trying to keep heads above water.

More and more people are turning to the Salvation Army for budgeting advice.

That's according to Debbie White, the area co-ordinator for the Isle of Man. 

The charity holds a course to help people change their spending habits.

Debbie told Manx Radio she believes with the cost of living crisis and the new budget introduced by the treasury minister, people will only start to see bills rise from April.

Chanelle Sukhoo spoke to Debbie and Paul De Weerd from the charity:

'I just buried my head in the sand'

Michelle Makin is one of the people that undertook the budgeting advice course. 

She told Manx Radio as a single parent everyday was a struggle, and often she would try to ignore the problem. 

But now, she says she no longer has to worry about the failure of not being able to provide for her children.

'Our marriage was suffering'

Emily Russ is another participant. 

She told Manx Radio due to the financial stress she was undergoing, she believed her marriage was failing. 

Mrs Russ added when income would come in, she would immediately feel anxious:
