Peel Commissioners says it's 'really positive' that its plans for a new community facility on Marine Parade have been approved.
The local authority hopes to start the demolition process this winter.
Peel Commissioners has previously said the area was ‘underused’ and the sports area could be located elsewhere.
Chair Ray Harmer says the development should 're-energise' the town and the far end of the promenade.
