Volunteers provided support during pandemic
Special constables were brought in on a full time basis to support the police during the Coronavirus pandemic.
The Department of Home Affairs has confirmed legislation was changed to allow the officers to be paid during the period.
They usually work on a voluntary basis to promote law and order, reduce the fear of crime and provide reassurance for residents.
Minister Graham Cregeen has also revealed that a number of those who 'stepped up' have now applied for full time positions in the constabulary.
