Outgoing Lezayre Commissioner criticises government for 'interfering'

The comments are made as the local politician is set to step back after a lengthy period in local government

An outgoing Lezayre Commissioner has criticised the government and civil service for persistently ‘interfering’ in local authority matters.

Vivian Quane, who has spent over two decades in local government, claims local authorities are treated as a ‘non-entity’.

With local authority elections taking place next month, the vast majority are uncontested, meaning many seats will be filled without a public vote.
