Offenders benefit from community scheme

A scheme offering Island offenders a helping hand to turn their lives around, by getting involved in charity projects, is proving a big success.

Unlike Community Service Orders, imposed on offenders by the courts, the work is entirely voluntary.

It's the result of a partnership between the Probation Service and the charity umbrella CIRCA.

Chief Probation Officer David Sellick (pictured) says it's giving offenders the chance to learn new skills, improve their self-confidence and give something back to the community (audio file attached):
