NUT chief gives Island schools top marks

The President of the National Union of Teachers has described Island schools as 'impressive and innovative'.

Her first visit since becoming president last April, Max Hyde has spent the week touring Manx schools and assessing the quality of life for teachers based here.

In a meeting with the Department of Education and Children, she told the minister and officials Island schools are doing very well.

She reserved her only criticism for the degree of planning required  from teachers - which was adding to an 'excessive workload'. 

But Ms Hyde is hopeful the Department will take her concerns on board, allowing both teachers and students to thrive in an environment where learning in the widest sense is valued:
