English Channel skirmishes have indirect impact
A deal struck by the British and French governments to end the so-called 'scallops wars' in the English Channel, will have implications for Manx fisherman.
The provisionally agreed effort swap has led to a voluntary withdrawal from the Bay de Seine following clashes at sea.
Current regulations restrict British boats over 15 metres from entering the scallop breeding area and the same rule will now apply to smaller boats.
Dr David Beard of Manx Fish Producers says as local scallopers will benefit as an indirect result of compensation for losses.
