Charity will do so 'carefully' to avoid further harm to stonework
Manx National Heritage is imploring well-intentioned members of the public not to attempt to remove graffiti from a historic site in Castletown.
It's after Hango Hill, a Bronze Age burial mound, was vandalised this week.
The site is famously known as the site of the execution of Illiam Dhone.
In an update this evening (6 November), MNH says it has been 'assessing the damage' after the walls of the 'historic summerhouse were extensively spray-painted'.
It is asking members of the public 'not to try and remove the graffiti while the damage is being assessed, as even well-intentioned attempts to clean it could cause further harm to the historic stonework'.
The incident has been reported to the Isle of Man Constabulary, as deliberate damage to an Ancient Monument is a criminal offence.
It confirmed its team will 'begin carefully removing the graffiti once [it has] received clearance from the Constabulary to proceed'.
