MHK warns of 'slippery slope' Budget which is 'bad for lower earners'

Lawrie Hooper votes against 2026/27 financial plan

A Ramsey MHK, and former minister, is warning this year's Budget is 'bad' for low earners.

Lawrie Hooper, who voted against the treasury minister's financial plan, has also described the use of reserves as a 'slippery slope'.

Chris Thomas says his plan represents ‘stability, security and confidence’ and sets out a ‘pathway’ towards reducing the Island’s reliance on general reserves.

But Mr Hooper disagrees, and believes those benefitting from the increase in the personal tax allowance are not lower earners:

Treasury Minister Chris Thomas will be appearing live on Manx Radio Breakfast this morning (19 February) after 8am.
