Caine welcomes 'modest increase' to Income Tax rate

A Garff MHK has questioned whether extra money allocated to the Department of Education, Sport and Culture will be enough.

It’s getting an additional £18 million - £3 million of which has been earmarked towards the initial rollout of a new childcare strategy.

Daphne Caine has also welcomed what she’s described as a ‘modest increase’ to the upper Income Tax rate which will be ringfenced for the NHS.

She’s described today’s Budget as ‘sustainable and responsible’ to steer the Island through ‘choppy waters’:

From April the higher rate of Income Tax will jump from 20 percent to 22 percent – something that’s been criticised by other MHKs for impacting the ‘squeezed middle’.
