Local charity's future in doubt

The Family Library faces 'urgent' search for funding

A local charity says its future could be in doubt if corporate sponsors can't be found.

The Family Library is a mobile service that takes books around the Island.

It's been revealed by the chief minister that many government departments benefit from the charity without contributing towards its funding.

Only eight of the Island's 22 local authorities made a contribution to the Family Library in the last year - a total sum of just under £7,500.

Majority of that figure was donated by Braddan Commissioners, who stumped up £5,000 for the service.

That's despite all but one of the local authorities (Douglas Borough Council) reaping the benefits of the charity.

Charity officials say an 'urgent' search is on to bring in corporate sponsors to help financially so that the service can be maintained.
