Lifeboat man honoured and thanks service for saving his life

A man who says he owes his life to Douglas lifeboat has been honoured for his voluntary service.

After receiving a silver medal for his efforts over many decades, Peter Cain paid tribute to the boat crew, shore crew, committee, fundraisers, supporters and Douglas Ladies Lifeboat Guild.

Now president of Douglas RNLI, Mr Cain’s first encounter with Douglas lifeboat was when he was rescued along with friends in May 1962 when their dingy foundered in Douglas Bay.

He then followed his late father Lewin into the RNLI.

Lewin Cain was also a recipient of a Silver Medal, being involved with Douglas station for over 70 years until his death in 1997.
