The leader of Douglas Council is urging government to leave public sector housing in the hands of local authorities.
David Christian has rejected suggestions by Social Care Minister Chris Robertshaw that a single, central agency should oversee public housing, Island-wide.
Mr Robertshaw said last week there's not enough flexibility in the system, with 17 different authorities currently looking after housing needs in their areas.
Councillor Christian has called for larger housing authorities to be created as part of a wider reform of local government.
He says the minister's idea is not right for the Isle of Man:
Ramsey and District Cottage Hospital closure 'inconvenient' but 'significant issues' need to be fixed
Four local authorities looking for by-election candidates
Reinstatement of home births 'remains at top of agenda' for Manx Care
Weekend sailings at risk
