Island survives minor flooding

The clean-up operation has continued into the evening (Saturday) around the Island after the second storm in less than a month.

Strong winds combined with a high spring tide at lunchtime brought a high risk of flooding to vulnerable coastal areas.

There were no reports of any serious problems and, while some parts were badly hit, it is thought the damage caused was generally not as bad as it was at the start of January.

Tens of thousands of sandbags were put out in at risk areas and they, along with the big barriers, did the trick in Ramsey in particular where they were enough to hold back the flood water from some shops and houses.

Barriers were placed in Christian Street, East Street and the back of the town hall.

All roads have now re-opened.

Earlier, Marc Tyley was in Hope Street in Castletown where there was no repeat of last month’s damage.
