Former treasury and health minister keen to see more done to tackle healthcare spending

A former treasury and health minister has questioned whether it would be cheaper for the Island to send more patients to the UK than treat them locally.

Eddie Teare had time in charge of the Island's finances and health service before retiring from politics in 2016.

For the 2025-26 financial year, health needed an additional £20.8million to cover its overspend, with Manx Care's most recent accounts forecasting an £8.1million overspend this year.

Mr Teare told Manx Radio he'd like to see more done to tackle spending on health:

Manx Care has been approached for comment.
