Inquest hears anglers drowned, investigations continue

Coroner of Inquests John Needham says investigations are continuing into the deaths of two anglers from the north of the Island.

Today, he adjourned hearings into the deaths of Stewart Curphey of Smeale Road in Andreas and Harold Clive Faragher of the Lambhill Estate in Bride.

Consultant pathologist Christopher Clague told the court a post-mortem examination showed both 66-year-olds had died from drowning.

He said although both men’s bodies had been found last Saturday, it wasn’t possible to pinpoint when and where they’d died.

Mr Needham heard retired builder Mr Curphey and Mr Faragher – a retired supervisor at the Manx Electricity Authority – were both found off the Island’s north-west coast.

Because of the circumstances, Mr Needham said they’d died on a date unknown; either July 26 or 27, in the sea around the Isle of Man.

He adjourned the case until a date to be fixed, and released both bodies for burial.

Mr Needham also expressed his condolences to the families of both men.
