Haven Homes in 'no doubt' Meadows estate will be completed despite legal action

Winding up petition lodged against housing developer

A developer on the Isle of Man says it will be 'robustly' opposing a winding-up petition brought against it.

Haven Homes is facing the legal action, brought by builders' merchants J. Qualtrough & Co. Ltd, over an ongoing development in Castletown.

Construction of 'The Meadows' started in 2021 but in October's sitting of Tynwald questions were asked as to why work on the site had seemingly stopped.

At the time Enterprise Minister Tim Johnston said work was underway to better understand the pressures facing the Island's construction sector adding a number of businesses had identified a slowdown on projects.

Referring to The Meadows the minister said contingencies were in place that will see that development continue.

It's understood some work has continued on the site since that sitting.

Haven Homes' Managing Director Dave Lewis says: "The company considers the petition to be a tactic surrounding a wider dispute that cannot be commented on further on at the present time.

"The company will be opposing the petition robustly to remain a going concern.

"The Meadows Development in Castletown is at the heart of the dispute and whilst the company has no doubt the development will be finished we are unable to provide any further details at the moment"

Manx Radio has contacted the petitioners - J. Qualtrough & Co. Ltd. - for comment.
