Snaefell Surgery to stop operating

Government says it’s acting to safeguard more than 5,300 patients after a GP surgery terminated its contract.
 
Partners at Snaefell Surgery, in Anagh Coar, say they intend to stop operating following a six-month notice period. 

The Department of Health and Social Care won’t be drawn on the decision to end the contract citing the fact that practices operate as businesses which are contracted to it.
 
It will, however, meet to discuss the implications of the decision next week to ensure continuity of provision for those affected.
 
Minister David Ashford said it was of ‘regret’ that this position had been reached saying the practice had served the community well over a significant period.
 
Three doctors, a nurse practitioner and two part time nurses are currently based at the surgery – as well as a practice manager, deputy and three part-time receptionists.
 
The department adds it will keep patients informed about plans to operate and maintain services in future.
