But should we reframe how we view obesity?
The Isle of Man Government is looking into whether access to weight-loss medication should be expanded, including the possible future availability of oral treatments on the NHS.
In the House of Keys this week, Arbory, Castletown and Malew MHK Jason Moorhouse wanted to know 'what consideration has been given to expanding the range of medical conditions that enable overweight people to access weight loss medication; and whether the pill form will be made available on the National Health Service'.
In response, Cabinet Office Minister David Ashford told colleagues his department is considering it as part of its ongoing 'healthy weight needs assessment', which is currently out for public consultation:
Nick Kaye sits on the board of the National Pharmacists Association and is a pharmacist at Kingsley Muti.
He says this type of medication is interesting as it comes with a lot of wrap-around care to support those on it:
You can find the healthy weight needs assessment here and more information about weight loss via Public Health here.
