'Fraud advice' email is another scam

Dodgy document targets Manx users

A prolific series of emails encouraging Manx web users to tackle fraud have been uncovered as a scam themselves.

After receiving numerous calls, the Office of Fair Trading is warning the public about the deceptive messages, sent from a fraudster who purports to be a 'law-abiding' and concerned individual.

The emails typically contain an attached document which claims to contain the recipient's personal details.

Opening this document can lead to the installation of malicious software, which can be used to obtain banking details and other information.

Chief Inspector of Trading Standards John Peet says the public must 'always be wary' of unsolicited emails, and is reminding the public not to open any links or attachments they're unsure about.
