LegCo asked to reform court treatment of 17-year-olds
Legislation, due to complete its passage in the Legislative Council today (Tuesday 31 March), would make a significant difference to the way 17-year-olds are treated in court.
That's the view of MLC Kirstie Morphet, who will take the Justice and Home Affairs (Reform and Miscellaneous Amendments) Bill 2025 through its final stage.
The Bill is a substantial piece of law, which also looks at the speed cases are dealt with.
Currently, 17-year-olds find themselves in adult courts, rather than youth courts.
