Fire services called to incident at Shore Hotel

Fire services were called to the Shore Hotel in Gansey early this morning (Fri) after reports of smoke.

The call out came around ten to seven and two appliances from Port Erin and one from Castletown attended.

Firefighters using breathing apparatus quickly discovered the smouldering fire was confined to a wooden mantlepiece above a fire in the restaurant side of the pub and extinguished the flames between the mantle and chimney breast.

There was only a small amount of localised damage which didn't affect the restaurant business.

It's thought the blaze had been caused by a candle which had been left burning overnight.

As we head towards Christmas, householders are being reminded to be extra careful when using candles and ensure they're not left burning unattended.
