Fine for teen driver who caused £23K of damage to parked car

18-year-old told witness at scene: "My mum is going to kill me"

A teenager from Peel has been fined after crashing into a parked car and causing £23,000 worth of damage.

Finlo Steaoin Sloane, of Ballawattleworth, was driving too close to the BMW on Bay View Road, in Port Erin, on 9 April.

The 18-year-old wrote the vehicle off – and managed to flip his own car, a Renault Clio, onto its roof - in the incident which happened just before 3pm.

At Douglas Courthouse Sloane admitted driving without due care and attention.

The court heard he told a witness at the scene: “My mum is going to kill me.”

Sloane’s advocate said he was ‘incredibly upset’ after the crash and couldn’t remember much of it due to the shock: “He does accept any sentence that is coming his way,” she added.

Fining the teen £500, and ordering him to pay prosecution costs of £50, Magistrates also added three penalty points to his licence.

Warning him that, due to existing points, he was close to being disqualified under the totting up procedure they added: “You need to take care – it puts you very close to the edge.”
