Fine for man who had to be restrained by five hospital porters

30-year-old told he'd made 'extremely foolish choices' 

A Douglas man has been fined £400 after drinking so much he had to be restrained by five hospital porters.

Fabrice Uwubuheta, of Peel Road, became aggressive to medical staff at Noble’s Hospital after being taken there on 7 December.

Police had found the 30-year-old, in the communal area of his apartment block, slouched against a wall and groaning.

They took him to the Emergency Department at 7.40pm due to concerns for his welfare but were called back less than an hour later to find Uwubuheta had been restrained on a hospital trolley.  

At Douglas Courthouse he pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly.

Uwubuheta’s advocate told the court his client had drunk too much and had little memory of what had happened adding: “He is embarrassed. He is ashamed of his actions.”

Fining Uwubuheta, and ordering him to pay £125 in prosecution costs, High Bailiff James Brooks told him: “It’s clear you were extraordinarily drunk.

“I have no doubt those porters could have been assisting others.

“I’m prepared to accept this was a one-off day of extremely foolish choices.”
