More than £8,500 has been raised so far

The family of Henry Fong has issued an appeal for support following his tragic death after being struck by a car on the Isle of Man.

The incident occurred on Saturday, 21 December 2024, as Mr Fong was walking home to prepare for a trip to visit his daughters in the UK for Christmas.

Despite being airlifted to a hospital in Liverpool, Mr Fong succumbed to his injuries the following day, surrounded by his five daughters.

In a statement, the family described Mr Fong as a kind, funny, and respectful man who was loved by all who knew him.

“He will be missed beyond words could ever convey, and his loss is insufferable,” they said.

The family is now facing an unexpected financial burden of repatriating Mr Fong’s body to the Isle of Man and arranging a funeral so he can be laid to rest alongside his late wife, LiQuong.

With no insurance policies in place to cover these costs, they have expressed concerns about meeting the expenses.

Acknowledging the timing of their appeal so soon after Christmas, the family said, “Any amount you can spare is appreciated.”

In a comment on social media, Manx Care has confirmed the health service "do fund the repatriation of deceased individuals who have been flown off-Island for specialist care in England.
