23-year-old was nearly five times the legal limit for cocaine
An Onchan man has been banned from the road after being caught driving with cocaine in his system.
Edward James Roberts, of Royal Avenue, failed a drug wipe test after crashing his BMW into a Manx Electric Railway pylon on 31 May.
A subsequent blood test showed he had nearly five times the legal limit of a derivative of the Class A drug in his bloodstream.
The 23-year-old admitted the offence during an appearance at Douglas Courthouse – his advocate told the court Roberts had consumed cocaine around two days earlier.
Disqualifying Roberts for two years and fining him £1,200, Magistrates said there needs to be better 'education on the effects of these drugs' on the Island.
Roberts will remain banned until he’s taken and passed an extended driving test – he’ll also have to pay £125 in prosecution costs.
