Diane Taylor watched as legislation passes final hurdle
The mother of Daniel Boyde says she is 'immensely proud' following the approval of legislation to create an opt-out organ donation system on the Island.
The Human Tissue and Organ Donation Act passed its final hurdle in Tynwald this week, with the change due to come into force from 1 January 2026.
Known as 'Daniel's Law', it's named in honour of the 15-year-old who died following a road accident in 2007 - after which he saved four lives by donating his heart, liver, pancreas and kidneys.
His mum, Diane Taylor, was present in the court when it was approved:
The rule change from 1 January means all adults over 18 who haven't opted out and are not in an excluded group, will be presumed to consent to donation.
Despite this transition, people are still being encouraged to register or update their decision on the NHS Organ Donor Register, which will continue to be consulted if organ donation is being considered.
