ManxSPCA seeing rise in social media rehoming fails

People on the Isle of Man are being urged to 'adopt responsibly'.

It’s after a warning from the ManxSPCA that its kennels and cattery are close to full capacity.

It’s putting the team’s ability to bring in animals who may need rehoming at risk.

The ManxSPCA is asking people to help them promote adoption 'done the right way'.

The charity says summer is often a particularly busy time for animal rescues, and it can see an increase in animals coming into its care for a variety of reasons.

However, this year, it has seen a rise in Island residents bringing in animals they saw advertised for rehoming on social media that turned out not to be a good fit.

Krysia Boruch from the charity has been speaking to Manx Radio:

Every animal coming into the ManxSPCA's care is assessed and seen by a vet.

They receive a health check, vaccinations, flea and worm treatment, a microchip and, where appropriate, are neutered or spayed.

The adoption process for dogs, cats and small animals varies.

If you are interested in adopting via the ManxSPCA the first thing to do is fill out a form on the charity's website.

The form will be kept on file for three months.
