Changes proposed for historic building in Castletown

Plans submitted for Lorne House

A historic property in Castletown could undergo a transformation if a planning application from the owners is successful.

Thomas and Lara Inskip have applied for permission to demolish part of Lorne House, in Douglas Street, and do work to the inside and outside.

The couple has also applied for registered building consent to make changes at the protected house.

Lorne House was built in the 1700s and was the former residence of the Island's lieutenant governor.

A longhouse on the site is also thought to have been the home of King Olaf I in the 12th century and, during World War II, the current building housed homeless babies.

The new plans would see the house's north-eastern wing demolished and the north wing re-rendered in lime instead of concrete.

In their application the Inskip's say the parts to be removed are poor quality and relatively modern.
