BVD virus thought to cost sector near £1 million
Efforts to limit a disease which costs Manx farmers hundreds of thousands of pounds will be progressed in the new year.
A consultation introducing new measures on BVD (Bovine Viral Diarrhoea) closes tomorrow.
The virus, which stunts breeding and can be fatal, is thought to cost the average dairy herd £13,500 every year - with the overall cost to the sector nearer a million pounds.
Government says it wants to manage the risk of infection by restricting movement and ramping up 'biosecurity', as well as stricter tests on imported livestock.
