Case of Strangles closes Island stables

Ballawhetstone says it's taken 'immediate and decisive action'

A stable in the south of the Island has had to close while it deals with a case of strangles.

Ballawhetstone, near Ballabeg, says it's taken 'immediate and decisive action' to ensure the safety of its horses and prevent any further spread.

The disease causes the animal's lymph nodes to swell which can restrict its airway.

Strangles is not a notifiable disease, but given its ability to spread rapidly, owners are urged to report suspected outbreaks.
