Planned 60 per cent hike 'driven by authority's debts'
A consumer rights campaigner on the Isle of Man has described a planned electricity price rise, announced by Manx Utilities this morning, as a 'debt-clearing' exercise'.
Customers can expect to pay around 60 per cent more for electricity come July, despite wholesale prices coming down.
The authority has reportedly been several million pounds in debt in recent years.
'Government has given the impression we'd all been invited out for a free lunch, and twelve months down the line we've been handed a bill.'
