Call for 'written guarantees' over cancer screening programme

Manx Breast Cancer Support Group petition surpasses 4,000 signatures

A cancer charity on the Island says it won't stop campaigning until it receives 'written guarantees' that the two-yearly screening programme won't be changed.

Plans to decrease the frequency of tests for breast or cervical cancer were noted in the Manx Care Mandate - however, Public Health Isle of Man says it hasn't recommended such a move at this time.

A petition by the Manx Breast Cancer Support Group against any possible move to a three-yearly programme has now garnered more than 4,000 signatures.

The charity says it wants the current model to stay 'until a better more effective way of screening for breast cancer is found.'

Manx Radio has approached the Health and Social Care Minister for comment.
