Hundreds of youngsters to get involved in sports across the Island

Hundreds of Island youngsters are expected to be involved in the 2026 Manx Youth Games taking place on the Isle of Man today (9 May).

The annual event sees children aged between year groups two and ten take part in multiple sporting activities held across the Island.

This year, there are 17 different sports those involved can take part in with training sessions for the different activities having taken place since January.

Sports Development Officer, Gareth Lloyd says the occasion remains primarily a non-competitive environment and is focused on giving children a chance to socialise and stay active:

The day will begin with an opening ceremony at the National Sports Centre in Douglas which is due to start at 10am.

Those involved in the opening ceremony are asked to be at the NSC for 9am where possible and no later than 9.30am.

Organisers are advising that the area around the NSC will be busy during Saturday morning for anyone travelling in and out of the area.

Bus services are being put on for any athletes travelling from the north, south and west of the Island whilst those in the eastern region are asked to consider walking to the NSC if possible.

For those bus services, athletes planning to travel on them are advised to tell the driver they are attending the games and will therefore be allowed to travel free of charge.

Following the opening ceremony, athletes will be transported to the various locations where the games will take place which will included Douglas, Braddan and St John's.
