Young GB star wins Peel to Douglas

There was a convincing victory for 18-year-old Ben Wears of Redcar in the Peel to Douglas 10 mile walk yesterday.

The under-20 Great Britain international won it in 1:14.01, almost three minutes ahead of Michael Doyle of the University of Bedfordshire.

It's the first time the trophy has gone off-Island in the long history of the event.

Manx Harriers' Steve Partington was the first local competitor home.

He finished third, a further minute back from Doyle.

Marie Jackson (ninth overall) was the first lady home in 1:32.57, the fifth time she's achieved the feat.

Janice Quirk (13th) was second and Bethany Clague (36th) third.
