Vagabonds pulled off something of a surprise in South Lancashire/Cheshire Division One when they beat Winnington Park 17-13 in a game switched to Mooragh Park after Glencrutchery Road was frozen.
Vagas had the better of the opening exchanges but despite this, Winnington Park took the lead with a Ben Barton try in the 32nd minute.
It remained 5-0 until early in the second half when Chris Heptinstall kicked a penalty for the visitors to extend the lead to 8-0.
However, Vagas’ forwards then took charge of the game.
Kevin Riley smashed over for a try, converted by Leigh Kennaugh, to make it 7-8 and shortly afterwards Bryan Kennaugh’s try, again converted by Leigh Kennaugh, made it 14-8.
Winnington Park hit back with a try from Alistair Knowles to make it 14-13 but a late Leigh Kennaugh penalty for Vagabonds sealed the win.
