Last-lap charge sees Ballymoney man claim victory

Michael Dunlop has made it 30 wins at the Isle of Man TT Races as sensational last-lap charge saw him take the win in the Supersport TT Race 1 this afternoon (2 June).

Embroiled in a battle with Dean Harrison for much of the race, Dunlop saw him in-and-around lap record pace as he overcame a near three-second deficit to win by over ten seconds in the space of lap three.

Elsewhere, Harrison made it an 17th podium in his last 19 TT races in second whilst James Hillier finished third to take his first top-three finish in six years.

Whilst Harrison was leading the way from Dunlop heading through lap one, it was James Hillier and Davey Todd who were getting involved in an early battle for the final podium place.

Heading into the mandatory pit stops after the opening lap, Harrison's lead over Dunlop had grown to 7.48-seconds with Hillier over ten seconds further back in third.

At half-race distance the leading contenders were starting to become more spread out with the gap at just over 5.5 seconds between frontrunner Harrison and Dunlop in second, and nearly 16 seconds further back Hillier was pulling up to around 5.3 seconds in front of Todd still fighting away in fourth.

With work to do, Dunlop responded over the Mountain section heading to bring the deficit on Harrison back down to 2.9 seconds going onto the third and final lap of the contest.

The battle for the final podium spot was increasingly moving in favour of Hillier who - by the start of lap three - had now extended his advantage over fourth-placed Todd to just over 11 seconds.

As he edged closer to Harrison's lead at the front on the final lap, Dunlop was also creeping into lap record pace in his pursuit of top spot.

And that pace told at Ballaugh on the final lap as Dunlop on the MD Racing Ducati Panigale V2 squeezed into the lead over Harrison before going onto eek out a 3.4-second advantage by the time both reached Ramsey.

Closing in on a first win at TT 2025, eyes were also keeping a close watch on Dunlop's pace as he continued to push late on at potential lap record speed, averaging just over 130mph.

And whilst the Northern Irishman would show a marginal drop in pace in the last two sectors, that did nothing to take the shine off of an emphatic win by 10.2 seconds.
