Top two win; St John's gain point

The two-horse race to be the first winners of the Sure Mobile Premier League continues.

Leaders St George’s remain firm favourites after an impressive 6-1 win at Ayre United.

Connor Doyle celebrated his 18th birthday with a fine double, a feat matched by Connor Morrissey, with Martin Torr and Sean Quaye grabbing the others.

Steven Parrish notched the solitary goal for Ayre, who gave the Geordies a battle before the champions ran out comfortable winners in the second half.

Peel remain on their heels as they showed their character yet again and continued their superb form.

Kerron Christian was the hero with an 84th minute winner to finally break the deadlock against a spirited Union Mills side at Garey Mooar.

Elsewhere, St John’s gained the result of the day to give themselves a glimmer of hope in their bid to beat the drop.

Two goals from Anthony Moore secured an excellent 2-2 draw at St Mary’s, for whom Jamie Skillen and Martin Reilly were on target.

But Douglas Royal seem doomed as Corinthians almost certainly secured their top flight status by thrashing their neighbours 6-0, thanks to a Jamie Stoy hat-trick and goals from Steven Glover, Matthew Palmer, plus an own goal.

Ramsey are still looking anxiously over their shoulders after going down 3-1 at home to Rushen.

The promising Jack Saxon grabbed a double and Neil Curphey the other with Steven Cleator the Ramsey marksman, while two from Lee Cowley and one from Michael Fernandez earned Laxey a 3-1 success at Gymns.
