Tierney in line for league debut for Arsenal

Manx-born left-back returning from operation and rehab

Kieran Tierney could this evening become the first Manx-born player to appear in an English league match for 72 years.

The 22-year-old left-back, who moved to Scotland with his family when he was 10 months old, signed for Arsenal from Celtic in the summer.

He's been working his way back to fitness following a double hernia operation, and played a starring role in his side's 5-0 drubbing of Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup last week.

Tierney is now set to be in line for a first league appearance for Arsenal, who face Manchester United this evening.

According to Talksport, the last player from the Isle of Man to appear in a league game was Ken Burns, with the former Southport winger featuring against Barrow in a Third Division North match in 1947.
